Market research firm Parks Associates announced that 60% of security systems are self-installed. Over six years ago, this number was only 7%, but the industry has seen a rise of companies that offer DIY installation like SimpliSafe and Nest Secure. Dina Abdelrazik, a Senior Analyst as Parks Associates, said in a press release,
“This demand for an easy-to-install, integrated solution is becoming more prevalent in the Apple HomeKit ecosystem, with more DIY security systems and camera-related devices releasing product lines compatible with this ecosystem.”
Parks Associates also looked at the age of self-installed security systems, finding that 63% were only one to two years old, while about a fourth of systems were purchased three to four years ago. Abdelrazik also pointed out the growing popular of Internet of Things devices that integrate with their systems. Overall, 33% of all broadband households in the United States own security systems, up from 28% in 2018.
